My personal passion

Today, we rarely look back. Yet some of the things that helped lead me to my field are impossible to forget. For quite some time, the Czech popular-science magazine Živa was my everyday companion, and hardly an issue escaped my attention. I diligently worked my way through them from the moment they began appearing online in PDFs.

For a while, though, I fell out of the habit. What brought me back was the opportunity to lend a hand in preparing an article of my own. Naturally, I was thrilled – although the deadline was beginning to breathe down our necks. Still, I could hardly let that spoil a moment like this.

A few weeks later, I open the envelope, turn one page, then another – and it is still not enough. I simply cannot get my fill. I have fallen for reading it all over again, but is that really so surprising? After all, the magazine's motto could well be: to make science accessible and captivating. And that is precisely why I grew so fond of it in the first place.
