Crustaceology

I admire people who can hold on to material knowing that one day they'll find a use for it. I'm not really that kind of person. I often prefer to put things out there straight away — when I'm bursting with impressions, I simply can't help myself :)

My friend – and by now, actually my colleague as well – Petr Juračka, however, likes to pull something out of his pocket that he later manages to put to brilliant use. A new episode of short popular-science documentary series brings together several different points in time.

Above all, it captures some of what we have been working hard on lately. But for me, it also served as a reminder that I have irreversibly grown older in the meantime. Just kidding…

Still, looking at myself, I can see that I have moved forward in many ways. Perhaps eased off in others, but either way, I have partly shifted my focus elsewhere. I have moved on to somewhat larger crustaceans. These days, I regularly descend into caves in search of them and rappel into seemingly bottomless pits. Such a diverse group of crustaceans simply calls for all sorts of fieldwork – and studying them certainly never gets boring.
